Part of obconnect’s Product Delivery Ecosystems
Open Banking ecosystems in the real world
The centralised ecosystem model isn’t theory. obconnect has built and operated it at national scale and helped extend the same playbook beyond banking.
A national Confirmation of Payee scheme
In New Zealand, obconnect built and launched a national Confirmation of Payee ecosystem in partnership with the country’s banking association — connecting the banking system to a single, shared platform in months rather than the years comparable national rollouts have taken. Rather than each bank building its own infrastructure, the intelligence, matching, trust framework and security sit centrally, and each bank connects to it as a participant. Cross-sector: energy data sharing
The same trust-framework thinking is now being applied outside banking. In the UK energy sector, industry work has explored using an Open-Banking-style consent and data-sharing framework so consumers can share their data securely between providers. It’s an early proof that the ecosystem playbook — a central authority, certified participants, consent-driven data sharing — jumps sectors. Read more on cross-sector data sharing as it extends beyond banking.
What these prove that a single deployment can't
A one-off integration proves two parties can connect. An ecosystem proves something bigger: that an entire market can connect on shared terms, that new participants can join a proven platform quickly, and that new products can be distributed to everyone at once. That is the difference between a project and infrastructure.
What's genuinely hard — and what obconnect brings
Country- and sector-scale trust systems are hard because everything has to be robust *before* everyone depends on it: the directory, the certification, the security, the routing. obconnect’s contribution is having done it in a live national scheme — the operational experience of standing up and running the whole framework, not just connecting to one.

Frequently asked questions
Yes — obconnect built and operates a national Confirmation of Payee ecosystem, and the model is being extended to other sectors such as energy.
It shows the trust-framework approach isn't banking-specific — the same model can securely share data in energy, healthcare and beyond.
