What is a product delivery ecosystem?
A product delivery ecosystem is a centralised platform that connects many actors — banks, corporates, fintechs and regulators, in fact any participant you’d like to join — to one another, so a product can be delivered to an entire market through a single shared service.
Banks and regulators already run product ecosystems of their own — to deliver tools like Confirmation of Payee, fraud prevention or Open Banking data sharing, and to distribute them securely to their members. obconnect builds and operates the centralised ecosystem that makes that delivery fast, secure and repeatable.
Increasingly it is data-driven product delivery: connecting multiple actors so data and products move between them under one set of rules. obconnect doesn’t bring a single product to a market — it provides the ecosystem through which any number of products can be delivered to it.
THE MODEL
The centralised ecosystem model
For years, regulators faced a binary choice. obconnect proves a third way — one
expert provider builds and operates the platform, and the whole market connects to it.
OPTION 1
Every bank builds its own
✕ Expensive, slow and inconsistent. Each institution designs, builds, tests and maintains its own compliant infrastructure.
OPTION 2
Build a national system from scratch
✕ Years of government procurement, political capital and public funding before anything goes live.
THE THIRD WAY • OBCONNECT
One centralised, multi-bank platform
✅ The operator sets the rules (we will help with that).
The participants connect.
The intelligence sits centrally – functions such as Matching logic for name checking,
Data attributes for fraud prevention, security infrastructure and product specific APIs – all maintained by obconnect.
THE SERVICE
What obconnect builds
The full ecosystem, delivered as a managed service — not a set of parts a participant has to assemble.
Trust framework
Verified identity, certificate exchange and standards that let participants trust one another by design.
Centralised API suite
A smart, standards driven, well-documented set of APIs for any product you wish to distribute.
Data handling & sharing
Any data set can be distributed and shared securely, reflecting any required hierarchy.
Managed client acquisition
New participants connect to a proven, standards-driven platform — onboarding in days, not the years a build-your-own model takes.
Security & resilience
FAPI-compliant and OpenID – globally recognised standards that ensure the integrity and security of your scheme.
Real-time MI
Monitor your ecosystem with a level of visibility that is groundbreaking. Centralised services give a real time view of every actor, and their behaviours.
Because the platform is shared, each new participant inherits all of its security,
resilience and functionality the moment it connects.
THE ADVANTAGE
Why a centralised ecosystem wins
Speed to market
New participants connect to a proven, standards-driven platform — onboarding in days, not the years a build-your-own model takes.
Lower cost
One shared infrastructure removes the duplicated build-and-maintain cost, otherwise carried by every bank, dropping the cost curve dramatically.
Security by default
Identity, certificates, APIs and security frameworks are established once, centrally, and applied consistently to every participant.
Product distribution
Once the trust layer exists, new products layer onto the platform and reach every connected bank and business in a single update.
PROVEN AT NATIONAL SCALE
New Zealand's national Confirmation of Payee ecosystem
When New Zealand’s Minister for Commerce and Consumer Affairs challenged the country’s banks to protect consumers from fraud — and do it fast — obconnect delivered the national Confirmation of Payee ecosystem, in partnership with the New Zealand Banking Association (NZBA).

New Zealand citizens have benefitted from CoP
Rather than asking each bank to build its own Confirmation of Payee infrastructure, obconnect designed a centralised, cloud-native platform. Banks connect to two APIs and make minor digital-journey changes; the matching logic, trust framework and security all sit centrally.
A fully functioning ecosystem — trust framework, onboarded banks, portal and API suite — was live from November 2024 across major banks including ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank and Westpac.
What took years in comparable markets took weeks in New Zealand. The result is a sovereign, scalable service flexible enough to distribute further products to any participant the market chooses.
It is a global benchmark for speed, security, cost and extensibility — and the model obconnect has proven works in a live national scheme, not a pilot.
The BOTTOM LINE
In summary — the benefits of obconnect's solution
One centralised ecosystem, delivered for the whole market — with the cost, speed and control a bank-by-bank build can’t match.
$0.5–5M
saved per participant
4–6 months
to roll out each new product across the market — versus the 1–2 years a per-bank build can take.
Skip the cost of building your own
Participating banks avoid building and running their own infrastructure. obconnect anticipates banks and participants saving in the region of $0.5–5M in development effort, and a similar amount on ongoing operational cost over time.
Minimal technical debt
Avoid the substantial technical debt each bank carries when building and maintaining an equivalent system in-house.
Delivered to deadline
The solution can be deployed and delivered within the timeframe a regulator demands, expediting delivery significantly. obconnect believes this is the only model able to hit a hard national deadline while meeting global standards for security and efficiency.
Centralised standards
Upgrades and new functionality roll out seamlessly across every bank at the same time, so the whole solution — and everything added in future — is managed in an agile, consistent way.
A secure platform to grow
The ecosystem is a foundation for new services. obconnect believes Open Banking, Enhanced Fraud Data and other data-sharing products can be delivered in 4–6 months with this model, rather than the 1–2 years a per-bank approach can take.
Cost and timeline figures are obconnect estimates based on comparable national deployments, and will vary by market and scope.
ONE ECOSYSTEM, MANY PRODUCTS
Beyond Confirmation of Payee
The ecosystem is a conduit that can be used to deliver any product, not just one.
Once the trust infrastructure exists, additional products layer onto the same platform and distribute to every connected participant through a single update.

WHY OBCEONNECT
The expertise, infrastructure and track record to deliver
obconnect specialises in building and operating the centralised
infrastructure that national-scale product delivery depends on. Its
New Zealand scheme is live, sovereign and operating at national

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A product delivery ecosystem is a centralised infrastructure layer that enables financial institutions to design, configure, and launch banking products — such as loans, accounts, and cards — through a shared platform, rather than each institution building its own systems from scratch.
obconnect provides the technology backbone for national-scale Open Banking and product delivery ecosystems. We partner with central banks, regulators, and financial institutions to design and operate shared platforms that reduce duplication, lower costs, and accelerate time-to-market for financial products.
When each bank builds independently, the result is fragmented infrastructure, inconsistent standards, and duplicated investment across the sector. A centralised ecosystem provides a single, interoperable platform that all participants share, driving down the collective cost of delivery while improving consistency and consumer experience.
Delivery timelines vary depending on the complexity of the scheme and the regulatory environment, but our proven methodology and pre-built components allow us to bring national-scale ecosystems to production significantly faster than traditional bespoke development approaches — often within 12–18 months for a core MVP.
Yes. Security is designed in from the ground up. Our ecosystems are built to the highest financial-grade standards, incorporating end-to-end encryption, strict access controls, comprehensive audit logging, and ongoing penetration testing. Centralisation also enables consistent security governance across all participants.
Absolutely. Our Open Banking ecosystem implementations adhere to internationally recognised security frameworks and data protection standards. Participant banks retain full control over their customer data, and the shared infrastructure enforces strong authentication, consent management, and real-time fraud detection across every API interaction.
